The Great Imposters at the Iowa Rock And Roll
Music Association Hall of Fame induction.
The Harlan Jazz Experience is one of the premier class 3A jazz ensembles in the state of Iowa. The band has placed in the top eight every year at the Iowa Jazz Championships since its inception in 1975 and has placed in the top five every year since joining class 3A. Under the direction of Steve Lawson, Steve Britt, and Ryan Meyer, the band has finished first at IJC seven times; 1999, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013. In addition to winning the 2013 Iowa Jazz Championships, the band boasted two of the top four performers in class 3A in lead trumpet player, Tanner Johnson, and lead tenor player, Conrad Heilig. Several members of the band formed a smaller jazz combo group to keep playing over the summer. The group meets once per week to work on learning new music and improve at soloing.
